When I encountered trigeminal neuralgia due to stress from work, I made some changes that alleviated pain and other inflammatory symptoms which I had for a very long time. It also led to a ten-pound weight loss.
It was the beginning of a journey. Subsequently, with stresses in my life, I thought I would make “healthy” choices. I bought ready-made vegan products. I did not realize that they all were packed with fillers. My blood pressure went up. Then one evening I had a severe allergic reaction. My body was completely covered in hives. I went to the Emergency Room. Through several doctor visits and tests, I learned that I had become allergic to what were supposed to be healthy foods.
It was crunch time, as the hives kept coming and going and it was NOT fun. I prayed, read research articles, and kept a diary of my meals and symptoms. I completely submerged myself and family in raw and cooked vegetables, grains, fresh herbs and fruits, with some lean poultry and fish. I had to learn that although some foods are supposedly healthy, the amount eaten and the presence of added ingredients greatly affected me. I also learned about my inflammatory and histamine levels. Eating antioxidant foods with antihistamine properties helped me immensely. Eating some histamine- triggering foods is okay but it has to be watched closely.
I also learned that the foods that become available in different seasons actually have nutrient rich and healing properties for the season they grow. This blew my mind. But it shouldn’t have because I always knew God is beyond any kind of genius. But perhaps it blew my mind that I didn’t learn and realize sooner.
Many fresh fruits with high water content become available in the summer because we need it. Nettle herbs grow like weeds in the spring and summer and guess what?’ They have high antihistamine properties. They are pretty much like Claritin. Dried fruits are for the fall and winter. They pack a bit high histamine effect. If you suffer from seasonal allergies, you don’t really want to eat them in the spring and summer.
In a couple of weeks my hives had disappeared. Within several months I had lost the weight I was unable to lose before. This was done just with food choices. I lost forty pounds. I started at 186 pounds. Then I went down to 169 pounds. I am now 140 pounds. I can fit into clothes I could not wear before. I feel lighter and definitely have more energy. I learned to do more relaxing and breathing exercises and remember to do them. My frequent heartburn and episodes of diarrhea have also improved.
I have GOD to thank for ALL of this. He truly is the fountain of all wisdom and healing.
Books I studied include the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants section 89, Healing Histamine, Masto Mum articles on antihistamine and anti-inflammatory foods, meals, and snacks.
